Back in 2007, Alex Rodriguez signed with the New York Yankees on a 10-year, $275 million contract. That same year, Barry Bonds hit his 756th home run, breaking Hank Aaron's all-time record, and most of us began to root for A-Rod to break it. Now, Rodriguez is slightly less popular as he and the Yankees are squabbling over something as minuscule as a tweet.
It all started on Tuesday, when this came up on Rodriguez's Twitter feed:
Nothing too volatile, right? Well, apparently not, because Brian Cashman was less than pleased when interviewed by Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York:
"You know what, when the Yankees want to announce something, [we will]," Cashman told ESPN New York. "Alex should just shut the f--- up. That's it. I'm going to call Alex now."
Yikes. It's been a tough year for Rodriguez, who has spent the whole season rehabbing from offseason hip surgery and dealing with more PED allegations. This incident may seem small superficially, but it sure appears to have been a breaking point for Cashman instead of an isolated incident.
Since then, Cashman has backed off a bit from his statement, admitting that he did overreact. Still, things are as icy as ever between the the two parties, and it only seems right to check the pulse of the Twitter-sphere for its take.

My take on the situation? While my respect for A-Rod has been on a steep decline for the past few years, I'm putting the blame squarely on Cashman. He may be frustrated with Rodriguez's antics, but was a tweet expressing excitement about rejoining the team a problem? No.

Who's in the wrong in this situation?
Any story regarding Rodriguez was bound to make headlines in the New York Post, but Cashman's rash outburst created an even bigger problem. With the Yankees 5.5 games out of first place in the AL East and 11-15 in the month of June, there are bigger problems for the General Manager to address. But now, Cashman looks immature in comparison to the much-maligned Rodriguez.
