Kimiya Sato plays down the chances of making his way into F1 with Sauber ? Formula 1 News

Japanese racing driver, Kimiya Sato has said that it is quite unlikely that he will be able to make his way into the Formula 1 with Sauber, ahead of his Friday run in the Young Driver Test at Silverstone circuit.

Sato is presently considered as the best-placed Japanese in the European junior racing and is deemed as one of the most talented youngsters in the world of Autosport. He has also competed in Formula BMW UK and All-Japan Formula Three Championship. He has successfully secured a drive with the Hinwil based team for the YDT at Silverstone on Friday.

The Swiss squad have recently announced that they are looking forward to put the 17-year-old driver on their development programme after making a deal with three Russian companies. However, Sato has insisted that it would be too early for him to think about any greater involvement with Sauber before his test run. Nevertheless, he stated that he is extremely happy to get a chance to driver an F1 car in the test and is positively looking forward to learn about new things which may help him in improving his driving skills to make his mark stronger in the sport.

"It's too early, and maybe not the right timing, to say if this test will be the start of a longer relationship with Sauber," Sato told AUTOSPORT. "Of course, if I get the chance I'd be really happy to get more Formula 1 testing opportunities, but I can't confirm anything."

Besides, he said that he has to perform really well in the Auto GP championship and should at least secure a top-three position to prove his potential for F1.

"I think I need to get, minimum, a top-three position in the Auto GP championship at the end of the year," Sato said.

"For next season, the priority is to keep racing single-seaters. I also want to step up to a higher level, the ideal would be to stay in Europe," he added.

It will be exciting to see how the young driver performs at Silverstone and whether he will be able to get any bigger role in the future or not.
