James Krause may not be a household name yet in MMA, but the fighter has certainly done his part recently to get himself on the biggest stage of the sport. Since he exited from the WEC in 2009 and then proceeded to lose two of his next three bouts, the lightweight has turned things around and then some by winning eight straight. In June, Krause made his UFC debut versus Sam Stout, and tapped out the ridiculously rugged lightweight with a third round, guillotine choke. Not only that, but Krause earned “Fight of the Night” and “Submission of the Night” as well. That’s some serious bank.
So, what does Krause credit his recent run to? While appearing on MMA Junkie Radio recently to promote his bout today with Bobby Green, the 27 year-old relayed:
“It’s a little bit of everything,” Krause said. “Around that time that everything started changing for me, I got with my boxing coach, Austen Ford, and he helped a lot. I took my mental training to the next level and I do a lot of visualization. It’s helping me become a better fighter and a better person. And I think I’ve got a very legitimate strength and conditioning coach. The combination of those things happening all at once really just took me to the next level.”
Today’s Krause-Green scrap is actually a really intriguing one, as the latter has won five straight and is coming off a memorable win over Jacob Volkmann at UFC 156. Krause also offered this take on his UFN 31 opponent:
“I think his ground game’s extremely underrated,” Krause said. “I don’t think it’s his technique as much as it is he just goes. He’s not afraid to press the action and take risks. I don’t think his is as good as mine. I don’t feel threatened by his ground game at all. I feel like I’m better everywhere. But I don’t think he’s going to be a fish out of the water if we do go to the ground.”
Hopefully it’s a solid day / night of fights. ”Fight for the Troops III” will be hosted by Kentucky’s Fort Campbell and will be broadcast in the U.S. on FOX Sports 1.
